I never thought I would be starting a blog about this journey, about my journey. I didn't want to be known as "the woman who lost all that weight" however, despite an amazing support system, I found I needed something more. A Ponderous Journey was born.
Ponderous means: of very great weight. Something I have felt both figuratively and literally. As I ponder the day to day of my journey the thoughts, emotions and physical weight can be truly ponderous.
You see, I am a teacher and this year our theme is The Hero's Journey inspired by the work of Joseph Campbell. One afternoon last week I was sitting at my desk talking to a student about how they can be their own hero and even though they may feel as if there is no light at the end of the tunnel, the hero always emerges triumphant! We all have the capacity to be our own heroes.
So here I am, 2 weeks from a Gastric Sleeve (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) beginning to share this journey with who ever wants to read and see it. I promise nothing too graphic however I will work to be candid and real on my quest to be my own hero.
